Its about time I wrote a proper coaching blog post, so here goes.
I have 4 regular pupils at the moment, Ray, Mick, Dan and Billy.
Billy is very keen to pick my brains on the head side of the game, he has chosen a difficult route for improvement, but one that pays massive dividends when it is implemented correctly, he is most of all, really enjoying learning TT at a high level, even if he does not attain ( but I'm sure he will) the high standard he wishes, his understanding of the 'game' is assured.
Dan is just the madly obsessive technique guy, he puts so much effort into his sessions, once he gets where he wants to be with his technique, we can work more on the tactical side, although he is getting better at this.
Ray, Oh Ray, he just loves to play, he's an older guy, but young in heart, he just loves to run me around the court, and If I am honest, I think the most Ray get out of our sessions is fitness, but with an edge of tactics, especially for the forthcoming season.
Mick ( Retford Champion) is another who clearly just loves TT for the beauty of the game, he really relishes our sessions, I can tell, he is very tactically aware as a player ( good TT brain) but at times lacks self belief, although his winning of the Retford mens singles shows he can overcome that, and I like to think that his sessions with me helped him to that glorious win.
Most of all, I have to say that I honestly am involved in how these guys do, probably more than my own results, I have come to take more pride in their results than my own.
Final note, I have Monday afternoons free now if anyone wants some coaching.
